Abstract Figures 6

by Matt Lamb

  • artist: Matt Lamb
  • title: Abstract Figures 6
  • Year: 1993
  • medium: The freedom an Artist gets from working with crayons, watercolours and felt pen otherwise known as mixed media gives them the ability to draw and colour work more easily than with oil and offers them the opportunity to exercise their imagination. This series of 13 paintings created in 1993 are very special as at the time he was doing them his grandaughter Rose helped him and the naivety of youth coupled with Matt’s vivid imagination helped to create this stunning series. A very famous painting by Jackson Pollack which can be seen in the Guggenheim Museum in Venice, “WOMAN” is a vey evocative picture that captures a collection of thoughts and styles that show the importance to Pollack of painters like Picasso, Gorki, Miro and Kandinsky and the experience has coloured his judgement in his creation of that painting. The same can be said of Matt in that he has learned from these great painters that it is not a bad thing to be imaginative and risqué in the creative process.
