Artist Statement
The Living Landscape
Deirdre Brennan
Nature is the force that sets the pace in Deirdre Brennan’s artwork representative of a living breathing landscape.
Interpretation of the artwork is subject to a process of constantly attributing qualities to the raw material of the landscape, the flora of West Cork, the rhythmic movement of sailing boats and the villages of West Cork. The landscape is gradated in successive planes, as in a great stage setting, where the subject matter is arranged between the foreground and the horizon.
Deirdre’s painting technique is executed with a layering process of rapid brush strokes giving an immediacy of emotion, the many moods of the West Cork climate, transporting us to a parallel inner emotive landscape.
