The Flower series of Paintings are from 1992 and were created as a series of 10 gouaches and watercolours and are from a period of very soft and delicate work by Matt. The flora and landscape around Matt’s home in west cork and his ranch in Wisconsin have proved a very important ingredient in his thought processes and flowers have continued to be an underlying link in his work over the years and symbolise growth and life and the beauty that surrounds us in ordinary day to day life. The vibrant colours draw the viewer close to the work and as in similar works by Kandinsky and Miro it completes the construction of the work and binds it together and completes the story of each work.
