Sherkin Island has captured the imagination of many painters over the years and Jo Ashby has certainly been influenced by the drama of this beautiful west cork Island and her work is a homage to this her most sacred place. The rocks and ruins must take up her waking hours and the detail of her work shows that it comes from the heart and as she has a home on the island she has been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time taking in the detail of each ruin and view the rocky shoreline. The work is done in acrylic which allows the work to, have that soft tone and the imagery often feels to be 3D and brings you into the work so you too can feel the terrain and coastline of this magical place.
