Sean McSweeney

Born in 1935, Sean McSweeney's home and nearby studio are situated a short distance from the Sligo coast. Since moving to the county from Wicklow in the 1980's, the shoreline together with the bogland behind it have been the principal subject for nearly all of his paintings. McSweeney's paintings are held in the collections of the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, Dublin, Trinity College, Dublin, The Ulster Museum, Belfast and the Arts Councils of Irleand and Northern Irland. In 1996 a book on the artist was published by Gandon Editions.
